Republican Study Committee No Longer Conservative

I am deeply disturbed that the Republican Study Committee has accepted Kay Granger as a new member. I have always considered the RSC to be a fine organization of truly conservative Congressman but that is no longer the case.

First, Kay Granger is openly PRO-CHOICE (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTNRytKDk70) . How does that fit in with the RSC’s “Family Values” position? Openly supporting abortion is not a family value in any way. As a matter of fact being pro-abortion (or the politically correct “pro-choice”) is decidedly ANTI family..

Second, Kay Granger is one of the most prolific spenders in Congress, not just among Republicans but out of all Congressman she still ranks in the top 50. Her earmarks on projects like the Botanical Gardens and the Trinity River Project are ridiculous and have absolutely nothing to do with the federal governments responsibilities. All she has done for 7 terms in Congress is vote for increased wasteful spending and ever growing government.

Third, she voted FOR TARP. She now boldly proclaims how she voted against the stimulus and other government attempts to take over but the fact remains that she voted for a government takeover of the banking system – how does that fit in with the RSC position?

It’s obvious to anyone looking that Kay Granger is attempting to “remake” herself in this election year when the vast majority of Americans are looking for true conservative leadership. It won’t work – we won’t be fooled by her “too late” change of heart. In a recent article about wasteful government spending in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram when she was contacted by the reporter for comment – she refused to respond. That lack of leadership coupled with her positions that are completely contrary to the RSC positions makes me wonder if maybe the other members of the RSC have forgotten what happened in the last 2 election cycles to congressman who forgot their conservative principles?

Remember NY-23? Who did you endorse? The acceptance of Kay Granger’s membership can and will cause the same kind of backlash that republicans who endorsed the RINO in that race got. I hope you seriously reconsider this and rescind her membership before it’s too late.

Sincerely,

  1. I have been saying it for years, I do not believe there is any such thing as an ultra conservative. You are either a conservative or you are a liberal. The Republican Party does not need a larger tent, they just need to stand up for the principles of the Constitution, and Christian morale values. They will get all the votes and support they need. But as you point out Michael, Rinos, are trying to pretend they are something they are not and there is not any room for them. Just a couple weeks ago the sheriff and the judge in a nearby county declared they were now Republicans. First act like one before you say you are. Dumb-a-crates running from the backlash of Liberalism. Would not get my vote.

  2. Michael, you are so right on this one. We have the same thing here in VA. Our 30 YEAR Representative gets a 7% on the Club for Growth rePORK Card; he is pro eminent domain and only votes like a "good little party boy." He has successfully charaded the voters here into thinking he's conservative. We need people like you who can post blogs to get people like Frank and Kay out in 2010!
